Sourcing of Sustainable
Raw Materials
The selected provider of Natural Nuance primarily cooperates with a tannery in Southern Germany.
The tanneries manufacture the leather adhering to European environmental standards for water conservation, emission protection and waste management and are committed to continuously lowering their environmental impact.
The policy of local sourcing reduces transport stress for the animals and the energy demand for the transport. It is a central condition for the salt and chemical free conservation of the raw hides and therefore for water-conserving production.
High emphasis is put on environmentally compatible methods and ingredients in the whole manufacturing process: low sulphide liming, GMO-free enzymes, heavy-metal free colours.
TANNING
Only vegetable tannins are used which are largely gained from harvestable parts
of plants and in compliance with rules on protection of species.
No materials are used that are considered to be environmentally hazardous according to the EU laws
DYEING
Together with formic acid and other acid dyestuff free from heavy metals the dyes
and fats are added to the tanning liquor. This way the leather is dyed and thoroughly oiled under continuous control.
CIRCULAR DESIGN
The bags are designed with a forward-thinking zero-waste approach,
allowing easy separation of materials for a second lifecycle.
Large swaths of leather, meticulously sewn together, make disassembly easy, preserving the leather for reuse in new creations.
Minimal or zero glue is applied, ensuring future repurposing is seamless. The commitment extends to accessories and packaging, featuring linen dustbags and chlorine-free materials.
